Fraunhofer CIMD Competence Platforms

competence platforms

Fraunhofer CIMD has established two interdisciplinary competence platforms to work on the overarching topics of »new classes of drugs« and »alternative methods for animal testing«. The focus here is on establishing a network of experts by linking expertise from core and partner institutes as well as external research institutions, universities and university hospitals.

Competence Platform »New Classes of Drugs«

The platform is expected to contribute in particular to making targets that are currently considered ‘undruggable’ (approximately 80 percent of the proteome) accessible. The treatment goal of these new drug classes is, depending on the indication, either the restoration of disturbed immunological self-tolerance or the strengthening of the body's own protective immunity.

competence platforms »Alternative methods for animal testing«

The platform addresses the applied implementation of new technologies for the reduction of animal testing in pharmaceutical research.

In addition, the platform is intended to serve as a forum to promote discussions between various interest groups and at the same time generate new ideas that facilitate the acceptance and implementation of alternative methods, especially in the section of drug approval.
